Most couples filing Form I-751 to remove the conditions on a two-year marriage green card are waiting two to three years or more for approval in the current environment. So when a case gets approved in less than five months with no interview, it is worth documenting exactly what was submitted and what the filing looked like. Here is the complete breakdown of the documents used in a real I-751 case that was approved in four months and twenty-eight days.
What is the I-751 removal of conditions and why does it matter?
When a marriage-based green card is approved before the couple has been married for two years, USCIS issues a conditional two-year green card rather than the standard ten-year permanent resident card. The conditions exist because the government wants to verify that the marriage was genuine before granting full permanent residence. To remove those conditions and receive a ten-year green card, the couple must file Form I-751 with evidence demonstrating that the marriage was and remains real and bona fide.
Most I-751 cases are currently taking two to three years to be adjudicated. Many involve interviews. Some involve Requests for Evidence. Getting a case approved in under five months with no interview is a genuinely unusual outcome in the current processing environment, and the documentation package that was submitted is worth examining in detail.
What documents were included in this I-751 package?
The case involved a couple who had been in a genuine relationship and had accumulated a solid record of their shared life together. Here is the complete list of what was submitted.
Photographs with captions. The photos covered the relationship over time and included written captions underneath each one describing when and where the photo was taken and what the occasion was. Captioning photographs adds context that makes the evidence more compelling than images alone.
Joint lease agreement. A lease showing both spouses on the same rental agreement is one of the most direct pieces of evidence of a shared life and shared residence.
Joint tax returns for 2024 and 2025. Two years of joint tax filings demonstrate an ongoing financial and legal relationship. The couple did not have high income and was financially modest, but the joint filing itself was what mattered.
Joint health insurance cards. Being on the same health insurance plan is strong evidence of a genuine ongoing marital relationship.
Renter’s insurance policy. A joint renter’s insurance policy listing both spouses covers the shared residence and adds another layer of documentation of a life built together.
Joint bank account statements. The statements showed money coming in and going out on a regular basis. The amounts were not large, but the pattern of a shared account being used for everyday personal expenses demonstrated a financially integrated household.
Joint electricity bill. A utility bill in both names for the shared residence confirmed the living situation.
Amazon order history. Joint Amazon orders showing purchases delivered to the shared address provided additional documentation of daily life together.
Travel records. The couple had taken a couple of trips together and submitted the documentation for those travels.
Text messages. A selection of text message exchanges between the spouses demonstrated ongoing communication and the kind of everyday conversation that characterizes a genuine relationship.
Social media posts. Social media content showing the couple together provided publicly visible documentation of the relationship.
Birthday cards. Physical birthday cards they had given each other over the course of the relationship added a personal and genuine touch to the evidence package.
Is this document package what made the case approve so quickly?
Honestly, the answer is that the documentation was solid but not extraordinary. There are cases in our office where the couple has children together, significantly more joint documentation, and a much larger evidence package that have been pending for three years. A strong document package is necessary. It protects against accusations that the marriage is not genuine. But it is not sufficient to guarantee fast approval, and the processing speed in any individual case involves factors that are outside anyone’s control.
The couple in this case had regular jobs and nothing unusual about their background. If there is any additional factor worth noting, it is that they were a genuinely attractive couple who presented well and whose photos clearly showed a warm and real relationship. Whether that has any influence on how a case is processed is impossible to say with certainty, but it is worth acknowledging that how a relationship reads through the evidence matters beyond just checking boxes.
